We might live on a holiday island, but starting a hostel of our own has been hard work! To recover, we’ve decided to take some time off over Christmas and New Year. Lucky for us, our new hostel is totally booked out anyway from the 18th of December to the 8th of January, so we are back on the road living wild and free.
So, where are we going?
Well, Hostelzoo founder Scott Ryan is heading to the cold place, also known as England, for a bit of a change from sand and sun. Instead of sunburn he’ll be contending with wind-chill and frostbite. And instead of stand up paddle boarding he’ll be snow bound and trying his hands, or feet, at the graceful ballet of ice-skating. Considering it’s been almost 40 degress on Hostelzoo Island, those -4 days are a serious dive off the top of the mercury!! Then, when it’s too cold to be outside (read: all the time) he’ll be kicking back in front of a roaring fire, chowing down on Yorkshire puddings and tossing back a steady banquet of English Christmas goodness.
While the boss is freezing his Santa hat off in an English winter, Hostelzoo minion and social media superhero Oceana is going to be basking in the summer sun. She’s heading on a crazy zig-zag trail up and down the Queensland coast, visiting friends and family. Then, she’s bouncing over to the Woodford Folk Festival on the outskirts of Brisbane for the New Year as a volunteer. For one week she’ll be dancing crazy and wild in the mud among the dreadlocked, hippy masses, and yet more tent living. Once she wrestles herself out of the Woodford bubble, it’s onwards to Sydney for a foray into the vaguely luxurious touristic life, just for a little while.
Then when the New Year has had its fun and January is on the go, where will the ZooCrew be? We’ll be back to Hostelzoo Island of course, where 2013 is looking very exciting!!
Both of us are looking forward to having a break from island life, just for a little bit. Don’t worry though, we aren’t even close to getting sick of our little island paradise. But, here on Hostelzoo Island, we do operate on a different kind of reality, so it’s important to get back to the real world sometimes! Otherwise we’d fall into a sense of chill so deep, you’d never catch us on the mainland again!
Plus, who doesn’t like to usher in the New Year out in the world on an adventure? We think it sets the tone for the rest of the year’s excitement!!
How’s your Christmas and New Year looking?
